Song of the Day: “Money” by Lady

Yes, Truth & Soul tell me more! I caught this on their soundcloud page. When I read further I was totally surprised to find out that it’s a collaboration between former Missy Elliot protegé Nicole Wray and UK veteran Terri Walker. This isn’t close to a sound that I would associate with either of them. I love the versatility. Looking forward to the album.

Song of the Day: “Lady Colour” by Troumaca

Troumaca (Birmingham, England) is a new signing to Brownswood and their Virgin Island EP will be released on February 25th.

Diggs Duke (Washington, DC) On The Main Ingredient February 5th!

In anticipation of his show at Drom on Sunday February 10th, Diggs Duke will come by The Main Ingredient next week!

About Diggs Duke:

The sound of Diggs Duke’s music can best be characterized as a fresh, yet familiar interpretation of the bond between Soul and Jazz. Within the last year, the American vocalist, instrumentalist and composer has released a steady stream of quality music that’s been dominating playlists from LA to Indonesia. Shortly after the release of his debut EP, “Gravity,” as well as several ambitious singles, the music was swiftly placed into the rotation of taste-makers across the US and Europe, including Gilles Peterson in the UK and Lefto in Brussels.

Mentored by alumni of the bands of Max Roach, Cecil Taylor and Frank Foster, Duke’s jazz ideals blend well with the Hip-Hop, R&B and Latin music of a 90′s upbringing. The result is a stellar mix of raspy vocals, fascinating horn arrangements and adventurous song forms, never losing sight of the perfect groove.

Song of the Day: “So What If It Is” by The Foreign Exchange

The Foreign Exchange (NC) posted the lead single from their “+FE Music: The Reworks” remix compilation yesterday. This feels like there most club oriented song to date. I like it, don’t love it (yet) but I do love how they flip it at 5:05 and am curious to hear it on a club system.

Yes.

Yes. [via mkolvr]

Song of the Day: “Video Star” by Bells Atlas

New music from Bells Atlas out of Oakland. I posted one of their tracks in August last year before they added “Atlas” to their name.

Song of the Day: “Cirrus” by Bonobo

Bonobo (NYC) posted this track from his anticipated forthcoming album as a free download 3 days ago. The North Borders, comes out April 2nd. Download details here.

Song of the Day: “The Story”

I came across this interesting minimal cover of King‘s “The Story” by Astronauts, etc. and realized I never posted the original as a Song of the Day so it only seemed right to post both.

Song of the Day: “Every Step” by Tawiah

I noticed that Tawiah (London) posted my favorite song of her’s to her soundcloud a couple weeks ago. It was originally released on In Jodi’s Bedroom in 2008 on Bush Girl. [via OP!]
